Students at Welado
Building your own path as a professional? Explore internship, thesis, summer job, and career opportunities at Welado.
Hi student or recent graduate!
Are you studying engineering and thinking about your next step into working life?
At Welado, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects, build your expertise, and start shaping your own career path already during your studies.
While most of our student opportunities are within technical fields, we occasionally offer internships in areas such as communications and project finance.
Every summer, new interns join Welado. Many continue working with us on an hourly basis alongside their studies and move into permanent roles after graduation. We also regularly offer thesis and master's thesis opportunities.
We want to provide a smooth transition from studies to working life. We support students' growth through training sessions, discussions, and learning opportunities focused on topics such as sustainable working life, business fundamentals, self-leadership, and professional expertise.
Please note that our daily working language is currently Finnish in Finland and Swedish in Sweden. As a result, many student opportunities require at least basic proficiency in one of these languages.
What our summer employees say
Many people begin their Welado journey as Project Engineer Trainees or Design Trainees.
During your studies, you may not yet know which field or role feels right for you, and that's completely okay. At Welado, you'll get the opportunity to explore different areas of design, construction management, and project management while discovering your own interests through practical experience.
Many of our summer employees continue working with us after the summer alongside their studies and later move into permanent roles after graduation.
But what does Welado look like from a student's perspective?

The journey towards meaningful expertise
There is a lot to learn at the beginning of a career. A new work environment, finding your preferred ways of working, recognising your strengths, and adapting to working life all happen gradually.
At Welado, you'll receive support, guidance, and opportunities to grow at your own pace. We want to help you find a meaningful direction as a professional while supporting the balance between work and studies.

Welado trainee path
In addition to learning their role and responsibilities, our trainees become familiar with ideas behind the cultural transformation of the construction industry, the basics of consulting business, meaningful and sustainable working life, and building their own professional identity.
We believe our role is not simply to teach interns how to work on Welado projects, but to help them grow into skilled, motivated, and thriving professionals for the future construction industry.

At Welado, you can truly be yourself. That makes work enjoyable, and it's easy to spend time with like-minded colleagues outside work as well. My studies focus on design, so it has been valuable to see construction management in practice.

Why Welado?
At Welado, students get the opportunity to explore the worlds of design, construction management, project management, and other expert roles within the built environment. Diverse assignments provide exposure to the industry, from design management and coordination to construction management and site supervision. At the same time, students can discover their own interests and find a direction for their future career.
We believe that putting people first is the only sustainable way to succeed in the long term, and we are committed to helping create a better working life. When our people thrive, it is reflected in the quality of work our clients receive and in the success of our company.

What's great about construction management?
We get to see construction projects through every stage of their lifecycle, from early needs assessment and design all the way to commissioning and maintenance.
We have the opportunity to influence project requirements and outcomes throughout the entire project. For example, the requirements defined in procurement documents play a significant role in shaping the final result. This means our work leaves a visible mark on the development of the construction industry, and even within a single project, you can clearly see the practical impact of your own contribution.
The work combines both office-based and site-based tasks, making it highly diverse. As construction management consultants, we build expertise in areas ranging from contracts and construction law to communications and stakeholder management. You'll also have the support of specialist colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and help you learn.
The work is collaborative and social, but it also offers plenty of opportunities for independent responsibility and focused work.
-
What's great about design?
One of the most rewarding moments is seeing a project you've worked on transform from drawings on your screen into a real, built environment.
Design work is also valued for its flexibility. In many cases, you'll have considerable freedom to plan and schedule your own work in a way that suits you best.
-
What does a project engineer trainee do?
You'll get to work both from the office (or home, or wherever suits you best) and on construction sites.
Typical responsibilities include assisting with procurement processes and contracts, supporting supervision planning, monitoring project progress, and participating in site inspections and supervision activities.
We always aim to incorporate your personal interests into your work. Whether you're interested in sustainability, BIM and digitalisation, design management, social media, communications, or something entirely different, we'll do our best to help you explore those interests through your assignments.
-
Can I apply without previous construction site or design experience?
Previous experience within the construction industry is definitely an advantage. Design experience can make it easier to understand and guide design processes, while site experience can help with supervision and project management tasks. Many of our applicants are in the final stages of their studies and already have some industry experience.
That said, several of our experts have started directly in construction management and supervision roles without prior hands-on experience in those areas.
You'll learn through different projects and roles while receiving support from experienced professionals and a caring work community. When you join us, we'll make sure you have the support you need to learn, succeed, and build a long-term career.
-
Do you have to be extremely social to work as a construction management consultant?
We're proud that people with different personalities and strengths thrive at Welado. We believe that diversity of strengths makes us better together.
At the same time, collaboration is a natural part of the role. You'll interact with many different people throughout your work, so you'll probably enjoy the job more if communicating with others and occasionally picking up the phone doesn't feel like a burden.
-
Is construction management consulting stressful?
We'd be lying if we claimed that you never need resilience in this profession.
The work requires self-leadership and organisational skills. Support is always available, but these are abilities you'll need to develop over time. Task lists can get long, and sometimes not everything gets done immediately. Instead of endlessly extending the workday, we learn how to prioritise, focus on what matters most, and work smarter.
As a consultant, you'll also track and bill your working hours, which can feel unfamiliar at first.
Construction management consultants often act as coordinators and negotiators in challenging situations. People may ask difficult questions, and you'll need to stay calm under pressure. Nobody expects you to have all the answers right away. You'll learn how to tackle challenges, move things forward, and find solutions by working alongside experienced professionals.
-
How do we support combining work and studies?
Summer employees and part-time employees are entitled to a range of benefits, including occupational healthcare services, holiday cottages, and sports, culture, wellbeing, and commuting benefits.
We certainly don't see students as temporary visitors. Instead, we see them as full and valued members of the Welado community.
During their studies, Weladians' compensation follows the internship salary recommendations issued by TEK and the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland, including thesis work. After graduation, compensation is negotiated individually and is based on factors such as work experience, the responsibilities of the role, and performance.
